In a move aimed at safeguarding the integrity of forthcoming civic elections, authorities in Mumbai have announced temporary restrictions on key arterial roads in Andheri West. From January 14 to 16, vehicle movement along Veera Desai Road will be halted to facilitate the smooth conduct of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls. Such measures reflect urban management strategies prioritising election safety while highlighting the ongoing challenge of maintaining traffic fluidity in densely populated Indian cities.
The scheduled closure affects both carriageways of Veera Desai Road, spanning from J.P. Road Junction to Mogra Nala near Azad Nagar, especially around the metro station area. Officials have clarified that only vehicles engaged directly in election duties will be allowed during this period, with all other motorised traffic diverted to alternative routes. The diversion plan directs vehicles approaching from the southbound carriageway to turn right or left at Courtyard Junction and proceed via Chitrakut Junction – New Link Road, while westbound traffic on J.P. Road must turn right onto New Link Road to bypass the closed segment.
